POLONA – search engine
Unless a resource collection is easily searchable, even the most extensive libraries are worthless. The number of entries in the Digital National Library is immense and is constantly growing – designing a search engine, which allows the user to find exactly what he needs, was therefore a must.
The structure of the system allows to search fast and filter the results with the additional criteria. In addition, all the entries of Polona have an appointed category and tags, which facilitate finding the interesting resource. The system of metatags and keywords suggests the categories or entries that might be interesting to the user as he’s typing his query on the keyboard. Thanks to this mechanism, the user can find out whether he’ll be shown required results before he even finishes typing it in. The search engine operates on the front end area, which makes searching quick and seamless.
