API for POLONA platform
As part of our service for Polona, we built the interface (API) for the digital resources of the National Library. API (Application Program Interface) is a set of rules, which computer software uses in order to communicate with each other. Our API is available to everyone, so a user who is familiar with specific coding languages may create his own apps based on the resources of Polona.
For instance, if a developer wants to create an educational app, i.e. a digital trip tracing a famous writer, our API will let him download all his books available in the library.
Thanks to its digital resources, The National Library enables the users to explore the culture through an entirely new perspective. Similar advanced API solutions may be found in few libraries worldwide, e.g. Library of Congress, Europeana and British Library.
